I’m heading out on the 12+ hours of travel to get there now.. I was wondering if the fee paid between certain hours is still in effect to allow photos being taken.

Photographing prices from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm:
1. Photographic camera (without flash) for amateurs (tourists): 10 L.E. (egyptian pounds)
2. Photographic camera (without flash) for professionals: 175 L. E.
3. Video camera (amateurs) 100 L.E.
4. Video camera for television personel:
1,500 L.E. + 100 L.E. managerial fees
+ 50 L.E. per hour for electrical current
usage.
These fees were in effect when I was last there in October 2007.
I’m afraid not. I was in Egypt last October and cameras had to be left at the gate of the Cairo with security officers.
One person who had sneaked their camcorder in was caught using it and had it confiscated. Quite a heavy price to pay I’d say.
No, unfortunately not. However you can take pictures before you hand over your camera. The building itself is quite nice and there are several historical items in the front yard that you can photograph. In addition, once inside the museum, you can buy postcards (not expensive) of items found in the museum. I must say that the visit to the Egyptian museum is something that stays with you forever, the impression is just so strong. Make sure you allow plenty of time for the museum -there is really a lot to see. Have a great time!
