Beginner photography frequently makes mistakes in adjusting the camera exposure when photographing the subject with the dark or bright background. Subject with the dark background produces over-exposure, while subject with the bright background produces under-exposure. Photo background can deceive the way the camera read the exposure. How to trick them?

Speaking about photography exposure problems, the photo object is not the only element that contributes the improper of the exposure results. Photography background must be taken into account too, because photo background contributes significant deceiver the way the camera reading the exposure. Even though the object is classified as mid-tone, an abnormal dark or a bright photo background can cause the camera to read the exposure mistakenly or incorrectly. The level of the error depends on how large the frame area used as the photo background.

It’s not quite easy to determine how accurate the camera explores the object. It depends on the metering mode you select in the camera. For example, when you capture the object which is not positioned in the center of the frame, while you select the spot metering mode, the camera will not be able to read the exposure correctly when the background is dark or bright. Characteristic of the photography background takes important role in the way the camera read the exposure.

Small Object on Large White Background

An experiment was made; the object was positioned at the right side of the frame occupying about 30% area of the bright photo background. The camera was set to the default setting ‘no compensation’ while the metering was set to spot metering mode. The result is under exposure (UE) photograph. How to trick the camera for a proper exposure result? With the small photo object on a large area of the bright or white background, you should compensate the camera exposure up to plus 2 EV using spot metering.

By providing up to plus 2 EV compensation for large white area with a small object on it, the photo exposure result would be perfect.

Unlike mostly people think when they capture the objects with bright background which tend to compensate the camera exposure under mid-tone compensation; that will just produce under-exposure photo results. The correct exposure setting should be taken contrarily.

Small Object on Large Dark / Black Background

Different experiment was made; the object was positioned at the right side of the frame occupying about 30% area of the frame. The metering was still the same, the spot metering and no compensation – mid-tone setting. But this time; the background was made dark or black completely. Guess what? The photo result was over-exposure. So, how to trick?

Capturing the small object on a large area of the dark or black background, you should compensate the camera exposure up to minus 2EV. Generally mostly beginners’ photography tends to provide plus compensation when capturing the object on a large area of the dark background – that’s wrong. The result would be over-exposure photos.

Other experiments were also made by reducing the background area and providing the main object predominantly on the frame either dark background or white background. With small area of the dark background, you should compensate the camera exposure up to minus 1.3 EV. On the other hand, with a small area of the white background you should compensate the camera exposure up to plus 1.3 EV.

Photography Background can deceive the way the camera read the exposure. So how much contribution the photography background to the camera exposure depends on how large the area used and how bright or how dark the photo background is. The result of the photo exposure can be quite different significantly.

One of the easiest methods to separate your photography from “the crowd” is to focus more on your photography background.

First up is a technique for giving your photography a professional look. That’s done with a pro photography background.

Let us face it, when you have a stunning, white, black or hand painted “Old Masters” type background, you will instantly shoot ahead of the “grabbed shot” crowd and will rapidly develop into the go to photographer in the area.

When your relatives and friends would like a pleasant photograph, they’ll think of YOU. (And, they will stop hiding when they notice you coming – you understand what I mean.)

The great part about using a photography background is that it makes it possible to control what is going on behind your model. There will be no more “horns” protruding out of their head – no more annoying elements like traffic, other people or even just trash on the ground.

One perceived drawback regarding using a photography background is that everyone assumes it’s essential to use a great big studio and also a bunch of pricey pro lighting to make it work.

This is not the situation!

With the judicious use of your on camera flash, several reflectors and possibly even a mirror or mirror finished plastic, it is possible to create the equivalent of a five light set!

I’ve seen it done and in the completed photo, you cannot tell it was all reflectors and mirrors.

By the way, besides your on camera flash, the same result could be accomplished via the sunlight as your light source. Drape your background from the branches of a tree, employ a number of reflectors and fire away! Your pals will think it had been all done in a photo studio!

The essentials that should be in every shooter’s collection are – at the very minimum – a white backdrop, a black one and a gray “Old Masters” type.

The white one generally is a bed sheet, piece of muslin, canvas or any white fabric. Do not fold it up or you will not like the results – the white will be likely to show wrinkles and creases. To start with, iron the background after which you can roll it on a tube. (Buy a little PVC piping at your neighborhood “do it yourself” store. Around 3 or 4 inches in diameter should work nicely.)

The black photography background can once more be any style of material, but “Duck Canvas” is my choice. With black, wrinkles are not as much of an issue, but the backdrop – in fact every one of your backgrounds – should be rolled up as well.

For the “Old Masters” design, I like to recommend gray because by hitting it with a colored light source, gray is an easy color to modify. This way, you can create any color background you want.

Try acquiring some photography background material and shoot a handful of images of a loved one. You’ll not look back!

One sign of a well-designed website is its colours. selection of colour is important in creating the look that the site’s owner wants to portray. if the website’s appearence does not meet the users expectations, then they will leave & probably won’t return to the site. This is usually the reason why a website isn’t as successful as it should be.

Knowing more about colour perception can make life a whole lot easier when picking a colour scheme for a site. knowing the colours that can irritate and which can calm is important in giving the user a good impression and experience of the website. why would you want to anger a user if you want them to buy from your website?

Colour balance and contrast is another technique you should know about. It can be used to point users attention to desired pages of areas within the site.

Below is a list of the most popular colours & their emotional connotations.

White is a minimalist colour. linked to simplicity, purity and cleanliness, it can be used effectively to highlight images.

Yellow is linked with comfort, liveliness, energy & joy. it is a vibrant colour that can be used to highlight specific areas on a webpage.

The colour red can conjure up feelings of lust, courage & strength. it is a strong colour & if used in small doses, it is effective for emphasising points.

Red is a extremely evocative colour and it conjures up pictures of hell, love, fire and warning. it’s probably the most effective colour to draw attention.

White could be used to create contrast by being used as a background colour. the sections of white in between components of a web page are called negative space. White is linked to cleanliness, peace and light.

Black is a really strong colour and is linked with sexiness, strength and elegance. it’s a extremely popular colour on photography web sites, because black creates striking contrast between colours within photos.

Brown can convey trust and honesty in a design. it can also be linked to old age, warmth & comfort.

Orange is linked with enthusiasm, creativity & stimulation. it can be used in designing web sites to show friendliness.

The darker side of purple can be extremely deep & luscious. it can be linked to royalty, spirituality, arrogance & luxury. lighter shades can stand for romance & delicacy. it’s a colour that is not used very often on sites.

Full of life, vibrancy & stimulation, orange is a exciting colour to use in web-site design. it can be used to bring a sense of youthfulness to a design.

Having knowledge of the psychology of colour can give web designers the upper hand when designing for a client. simply knowing which colours create which effects can make a site successful. there is nothing worse than creating a great looking website but doesn’t connect with the site user. using colour cleverly to create feeling, contrast & balance can change an average website into a successful one.

There’s a lot of tosh written about decent studio portraits always requiring five lights. Yes, sure most of us use them from time to time, but it is altogether more satisfying to see how few we really do require to nail all the required elements.

We have been experimenting with one light for quite a while. Perhaps an obvious choice for low-key lighting. We will often use a single side facing main light with a black panel between it and the white backgorund to achieve some quite pleasing results. Add a reflector on the other side of the subject to brighten up those really dark shadows, and it starts to look good.

Low-key sorted, but what about high-key? Impossible? Certainly not! The trick here is to place the subject close to the background and get the main light in close with a largeish softbox (1m square or…

The trick here is to place the subject close to the background and get the main light in close with a largeish softbox (1m square or larger) and angling down at around a 30 degree angle. Make sure you install reflectors all round the subject. Use one as a kicker, one as a hair light and one either side of the subject to get rid of the tell-tale shadows on the background and hey-presto….high-key lighting.

Not convinced?

Try it.

Yes, sure there will be quite a bit of fiddling around with exposure and reflectors. We would tend to use silver as gold can give uneven colour temperature issues and white may be a little flat with only one light source.

The point I’m trying to make is that although most of us use multiple lights, it doesn’t have to be that way. If a photographer is just starting out in portraiture, he/she doesn’t need to feel hampered by not having huge amounts of kit.

Many of the world’s greatest photographers were initially unable to afford to buy much equipment and had to improvise – often leading to some of the most iconic images of the twentieth (and possibly the twenty first) century.

If I’m truly honest, I normally prefer to work with four or five lights, as it allws me to build more depth into the shot, but it doesn’t hurt us to experiment from time to time.

One facet of a well-designed website is its colours. choice of colours is important in creating the look that the site’s owner wants to portray. if the look of the site doesn’t meet the users expectations, then they’ll leave & probably won’t return to the site. This is often the reason why a site isn’t doing quite as well as it should.

Knowing all about colour perception can make life a lot easier when deciding on a colour scheme for a site. knowing the colours that can irritate & which can calm is important in giving the user the right impression and experience of the website. why would you annoy a user when you want them to buy from your site?

Colour contrast & balance is another technique you should know about. It can be used to point users in the direction of to certain pages on the site.

Below is a list of the best-used colours & their emotional connotations.

Green is associated with nature, peace and jealousy. it’s also a extremely relaxing colour and is competent to use for a calming effect.

The colour white conjures up feelings of purity, simplicity, emptiness and innocence. if used as a site’s main colour, it creates a clean and simple feel.

Blue is usually associated with with corporate sites as its a strong colour that is associated with confidence, coldness, depression, water and peace.

The colour red is a truly evocative colour & it stirs up pictures of hell, love, fire & warning. its probably the best colour to use to draw attention.

White can create contrast by being used as a background colour. the sections of white inbetween the components of a webpage are called negative space. White is linked with cleanliness, peace & light.

Black is a really strong colour & is linked with sexiness, intensity & elegance. its a truly popular colour on photography sites, as black creates striking contrast between colours within photos.

Orange is a colour that is associated with vibrancy, heat, fire and energy. A healing colour, it can be used in designing web sites to signify openness.

Purple isn’t a really popular colour in designing web sites, as its seen as pretty girly and can give the impression of arrogance, finances, luxury and indulgence.

Orange is linked to fire, enthusiasm, heat & hazard. But it’s also a really friendly & young colour that’s used frequently in web sites aimed at youth culture.

Tradition, stability, depth & constitution are all linked to the colour brown. But it’s really similar to green in that it’s also linked with trees, mother earth & calm.

In conclusion, when selecting colours for designing for the world wide web, thought should be given to the way it can potentially affect users. The selection of colour may look laudable or meet your brief, although will it put your users off? by making some simple changes, like changing the purchase button to a vibrant colour may generate more sales. Serious consideration and thought could mean the difference between failure and success.

Fine Art photography is an essential part of both home and office decor. If you don’t currently have photography as part of your interior design… we’ll, you’re quite simply not doing it right.

Not having fine art photographs interspersed along with other works of art throughout your home is like pasta without sauce; shoes without socks; salt without pepper – you get the idea.

Here are four reasons why everyone should buy and display Fine Art photography in their homes and offices:

1. Fine Art photography is less expensive than traditional artwork (paintings and sculpture), but has equal artistic impact in room design.

2. Fine Art photographs allow the owner, you, an endless supply of alternatives in terms of framing options. A frame is just as much a part of the piece as the photograph itself. Pick one that truly suits the piece and your taste.

3. The available subject matter in Fine Art photography far out-weighs that of its artistic brethren, paintings. Sky’s the limit in photography. If a photographer can capture it on film, you can own it, no matter the subject.

4. Owning Fine Art photography is like setting a new trend in your neighborhood. Many people have yet to catch onto the “coolness” associated with displaying photography as part of a design scheme. Be a trend setter. Buy some photography. You won’t be sorry.

Here’s an example of how Fine Art photography can really make a room. It’s the perfect focal point.

Sport photography is the most exciting and difficult kind of photography. This type of photography involves the action and speed. As this type of photography requires so much of action and speed, thus it would require good angles and also the physical strength at the time of the shoot. This generally includes the shoots that are clicked during the game.

Sports photography actually aims to freeze the moment at the actual event. Sports photographers must be prepared with the correct equipments. They should wish to click each and every emotion and the moment. The important aspect about the sport photography is that a photographer can click the each and every moment and later can share with public.

If you are into sports photography than the first thing is that you must know all the different types of sport. However each sport is different. Therefore the techniques and style used in freezing and capturing each moment is different. Take a brief about a sport and field which you are going to shoot. Knowledge of sport rules would help you to know the interesting angles. Let us see some basic guidelines which would help us to make our task easier.

Basketball

This sport is an easiest one to shoot as you just need to focus on the two subjects: a player and the net. But it limits you with certain angles.

Baseball

It is the sport which is most difficult to shoot due to the unpredictability. But ensure your safety first before experimenting with the shoots.

Football

This is an easier sport to click, but it contemplates the most of attention as here you have to wait for a perfect time.

Hockey and soccer

It is highly recommended to use auto focus camera in these sport as sudden moments and speed are involved in it.

Golf and cricket

It is very difficult to click images during a game because of a nature of a game. You can simply take one position and from there you can take shots.

Track

This is the kind of sport which is very fun to click as it is very easy to click and quite predictable. Just you need to wait for is the good time.

Racing events

They are easy to be photographed, but you require longer lenses to shoot if you are far away from a track.

Volleyball

However it is the rarest covered events. Also it is one of the favorites sport to cover as dramatic shots could be derived throughout the game. You need to turn the auto focus on as the moves in the sports are tricky.

The art of photography is something that many people all over the world have come to love and enjoy. It is not something that is just enjoyed as only a hobby any longer. The creativity and skill that is involved in being able to achieve a beautiful photograph, is something that has grown tremendously over the years. There is a large amount of individuals who are able to enjoy this form of art as their career choice.

There seems to be something magical about the way that a skilled photographer allows us the ability of sometimes feeling as if we are able to travel to those far away places we see in so many photographs, as seen through the eyes of the photographer.

Many times, as you are looking at a professional photograph, it is often very possible to be so captivated by them, that you can actually feel as if you have literally stepped into the picture you are viewing. The art form, and great skill that is involved in the world of photography, has the ability to take us to many places. There are many people who say this same thing from reading a good book. There are many world-renowned photographers whose work is included in many popular books of today

There is a very wide spectrum of creative choices that you can explore when it comes to learning one of the many different areas of specialty that is offered in the world of photography. If you are contemplating the idea of going to photography school to enhance your skill and knowledge, you may choose to specialize in one of many different areas of expertise that is offered in photography. These would include weddings, nature, sports, weather, underwater, macro photography, urban photography, and a number of others.

Some people may not be aware, but there is a lot more that goes into the skill and art of photography than simply aiming a camera and clicking a button. For example, an underwater photographer must also be highly skilled in swimming, scuba diving, as well as have a vast storehouse of knowledge in the specialized equipment that is required for this type of photography.

For any photo’s that need to be taken in the dental, or other type of medical field, this is also a specialized area of photography that would require a tremendous amount of knowledge. Tthe use of the specialized equipment that is involved in these types of photographs.

Professional photographers that have an area of expertise that includes creative photographs taken of various types of animals would also generally require that the photographer had at least a basic knowledge of the types of animals that they were working with. To be successful in being able to take those once in a lifetime shots that many photographers only wish they could capture, you would want to educate yourself on some of the habits of the animals that you plan to be around.

At first thought, many people generally do not think there is very much involved in the field of photography. This statement however, could not be any further from the truth. It takes a large amount of dedicated practice and the utmost in skill to be able to acquire the expertise that is needed to become a successful photographer.

People have always had this fascination about capturing those snapshot-worthy moments in photographs. Whether it is your baby’s firsts, the ‘before and after’ shots of the kids growing up, a traditional family picture – there is this need to capture these moments for posterity’s sake. Now, if you are looking for the services of a professional Calgary photographer to do the job for you – you do have a lot of options to choose from. Do a quick search online for Calgary photographers and you just might be overwhelmed with the number of results that you will get. Having choice is definitely good news. Selecting a photographer who you connect with is important, especially for those who are looking for high-quality work from the Calgary photographer who will capture those funny, touching and serene moments in your family’s life.

So if you are looking for a Calgary photographer who will photograph your baby, your family, or take snapshots of any important event in your family life that is worth recording, what are the factors that you should look for? How will you know which one among the many Calgary photographers will do a great job at taking pictures of you and the rest of your family? First, make sure that the Calgary photographer who you will work with is a professional. If you want to have your family portraits last throughout the years, it always pays to hire the services from professional Calgary photographers – rather than scrimping and getting the help a person who does photography as a hobby.

Second, make sure that the style of the Calgary photographers that you will be working with will fit the style that you are looking for. For example, if you want to have a picture of you with your baby, a black-and-white photograph will give it that age-old feel. On the other hand, the more colorful moments between two laughing siblings, for example, may be shot in full color. Third, the Calgary photographer who will take snapshots of your family should be personable, flexible and is willing to work with you to achieve the results that you want. It doesn’t matter if you want to frame the photograph or place the prints on a scrapbook. What matters is that every picture that the Calgary photographer will take is worthy of being shown to the guests in your home.

Don’t pass up on the opportunity to capture those moments. Your baby’s first step will only happen once – and having a snapshot to remember the moment by is something that you can treasure for the rest of your life. Remember that the services of professional Calgary photographers come with a price. The more high-profile the photographer is, the higher the price you should expect to pay. However, you can rest assured that the results will be no less outstanding. If you are looking forward to seeing your touching family moments captured, get the services of a professional Calgary photographer – and every penny that you pay will be well worth it.
